Sports News:
PGA Tour to enforce pace of play with secret list of slow players

In April the PGA Tour will begin monitoring which players are taking “excessive” quantities of time to take photographs and penalizing them extra harshly.

The tour introduced a brand new coverage whereby officers will use its knowledge software program, ShotHyperlink, to maintain a list of the slowest players on tour week to week, reviews mentioned Tuesday. Players on the list who take greater than 60 seconds to play a shot shall be given an official warning; the second offense will end in a one-stro-ke penalty.

The so-called “Observation List” won’t be made public, nevertheless.

Separate from the list, any participant who takes greater than 120 seconds to play a shot, “absent a good reason for doing so,” shall be dinged with an Excessive Shot Time. A participant that accumulates two unhealthy instances in a single event shall be assessed a one-stro-ke penalty, plus one other stro-ke for each unhealthy time thereafter, and players face a $50,000 effective upon their second unhealthy time in a single season.

The coverage will go into impact on the RBC Heritage occasion in April.

“You talk to players, read articles, hear from fans,” mentioned PGA TOUR chief of operations Tyler Dennis. “What gets people, what gnaws at them, are these individual habits that people have. It’s seen as bad etiquette, it’s seen as a distraction, and we’re targeting those individual moments to help their fellow competitors and assist our media partners with presentation.”
