William Barr criticizes Justice Department prosecutors, asserts authority to overrule decisions

Attorney General William Barr criticized his personal Justice Department in a fiery speech Wednesday evening, accusing them of “headhunting” high-profile targets whereas insisting he has absolute authority to overrule line prosecutors.

Speaking at an occasion hosted by Hillsdale College, Mr. Barr didn’t reference any particular instances. But his remarks appeared to handle criticism of his involvement in instances the Justice Department has introduced in opposition to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and political operative Roger Stone, each associates of President Trump.

“What exactly am I interfering with?” Mr. Barr requested. “Under the law, all prosecutorial power is invested in the attorney general.”

Mr. Barr additionally accused prosecutors of searching for to “amass glory” by prosecuting high-profile individuals.

“I’d like to be able to say that we don’t see headhunting in the Department of Justice,” he stated. “That would not be truthful. I see it every day.”
